Once the caramel has hardened, pour the egg-milk mixture into the mold, and cover it with a lid. Prepare a pan with 2 cups of water and a kitchen towel, then place the mold in the pan. Add weight on top of the mold and cook it on low flame for 30–40 minutes.
After cooking, let the custard cool to room temperature, and then refrigerate it for 2 hours. Your delicious caramel custard will be ready by then! Enjoy!

Side Dishes Are Perfect with Caramel Custard
I can enjoy caramel custard on its own without any side dishes. However, pairing it with complementary dishes can elevate its sweet and creamy flavor. You can try it with fresh fruit salad. A mix of strawberries, oranges, and kiwi adds a refreshing, tangy contrast to the caramel custard’s richness.
My mother loves to enjoy it with a handful of roasted nuts like almonds or hazelnuts, which add a delightful crunch and nutty depth.
My best friend prefers it with buttery shortbread cookies, as their crisp texture beautifully complements the custard’s silky smoothness. You can also try it with dark chocolate sauce or some grated chocolate on top. It gives a hint of bitterness that pairs wonderfully with the caramel sweetness.
Chef’s Tips
- Before pouring into the mold, strain the custard mixture to remove any egg strands or bubbles for a silky texture.
- While making caramel, use low heat and stir constantly to avoid burning the sugar. The perfect caramel has a deep amber color without any bitterness.
- Placing the mold in a pan with water helps distribute heat evenly. This ensures the custard cooks gently and uniformly.
- Run a knife around the edges of the mold before flipping to ensure a clean release and perfect presentation.
