Without any delay let’s get straight into the recipe.

What is French Fry?

French fries are thinly sliced pieces of potato that are deep-fried until crispy and golden brown. They are one of the most popular snacks or side dishes worldwide, known for their crunchy exterior and fluffy interior. While their name suggests a French origin, their true beginnings are debated, with some attributing them to Belgium.

The crispiness of your french fry depends on your cooking tricks as well as on your potato quality. I will suggest you get the fresh ones for better flavor.

How To Make French Fry?

To make french fries, simply cut your french fries as regular size as stripes.

Soak them in water. Soaking potatoes before making French fries removes excess starch, which helps prevent them from sticking together and ensures a crispier texture.

After 30 minutes take them out and put them in boiled water to make the potatoes softer. Then just coat the stripes with corn flour and deep fry in hot oil. In a few minutes, your french fries will be ready to serve.

You can also experiment with french fries with different cuts, such as shoestring, crinkle-cut, or wedges, to find your favorite texture.

What To Serve With French Fries?

French fries are versatile and pair well with a variety of dishes and dips. They’re a classic side for burgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, or sandwiches.

For a lighter option, serve them alongside grilled fish, roasted vegetables, or fresh salads. Popular dips include ketchup, mayonnaise, barbecue sauce, cheese sauce, or aioli.

You can also get creative by topping fries with chili, cheese, or gravy to make loaded fries. For an international twist, serve them with curry sauce, tzatziki, or guacamole. Whether as a side dish or snack, French fries complement almost any meal.

Chef’s Tips

  • Soak the cut potatoes in cold water overnight (if possible) to remove excess starch and achieve a crispier texture.
  • Before frying, pat dry the soaked potatoes with a towel to prevent oil splatter and ensure the fries crisp up.
  • For frying on the first round, keep the flame at a lower temperature (around 325°F or 163°C) to cook them through, and then at a higher temperature (around 375°F or 190°C) for a crispy golden finish.
  • Use fresh, high-smoke-point oil like vegetable or peanut oil for frying. This helps achieve the best crispy texture.
  • Fry in small batches to avoid overcrowding, which lowers the oil temperature and leads to soggy fries.
