Beef Biryani Recipe

Ingredients

  • ½ kg beef (cut into cubes)
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 1 tbsp garlic paste
  • 2 tbsp biryani masala (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • ½ tbsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp sour yogurt
  • 2 tbsp mustard oil
  • ½ cup sliced onions
  • 1 tbsp salt (for boiling rice)
  • 10 black peppercorns
  • 3 cardamoms
  • 1 small star anise
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 cloves
  • 1 black cardamom
  • 1 tbsp shahi jeera (caraway seeds)
  • 2 cups basmati rice (soaked)
  • A few aloo bukhara (dried plums)
  • Green chilies (as preferred)
  • Fried onions (for garnish)
  • 2 tbsp ghee 
  • 1 tbsp rose water
  • 1 tbsp kewra water
  • 1 tbsp food color (optional)

Directions

  • In a bowl, take ½ kg of beef. Cut into pieces.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of salt, 1 tablespoon of ginger paste, 1 tablespoon of garlic paste, 2 tablespoons of biryani masala, 1 tablespoon of chili powder, 1 tablespoon of coriander powder, ½ tablespoon of turmeric powder, 1 tablespoon of cumin powder, 1 tablespoon of ghee, 2 tablespoons of sour yogurt, 2 tablespoons of mustard oil, and ½ cup of sliced onions.
  • Now mix all the ingredients well with the beef. Make sure the beef is coated entirely with the spices.
  • Cover the bowl and marinate the beef for at least 30 minutes.
  • After marinating, pour the beef mixture into a cooking pan and cover it.
  • Cook for 10 minutes, then remove the lid and stir the beef well.
  • Cover again and cook until the gravy is reduced and thickened. Cook on a medium flame and stir a few times. Your beef will be nicely cooked. I did not use any extra water.
  • Now prepare the rice, In a pan, add water and bring it to a boil.
  • Add 1 tablespoon of salt, 10 black peppercorns, 3 green cardamoms, 1 small star anise, 1 cinnamon stick, 1 bay leaf, 3 cloves, 1 black cardamom, and 1 tablespoon of shahi jeera.
  • Add 2 cups of soaked basmati rice and cook until the rice is 90% done. Now drain the excess water from the rice.
  • Gently layer the cooked rice on top of the beef in the pot.
  • Place a few aloo bukhara, green chilies, and fried onions on top of the rice.
  • Drizzle 2 tablespoons of ghee, 1 tablespoon of rose water, and 1 tablespoon of kewra water over the rice.
  • For a vibrant color, you can use food color but it’s totally optional. 
  • Finally, Cover the pan and cook on the lowest heat for 20 minutes.
  • Your beef biryani is ready! Serve it hot with your favorite salad.

What to Serve With Beef Biryani?

To serve with this dish, you can add your favorite salad, such as lemon, cucumber, tomato, onion, and green chili however you like. Raita also goes very well with biryani. You can add a boiled egg to make the dish more filling. Ultimately it’s up to you, enjoy it however you like!
