- ⅛ cup vanilla custard powder
- A few drops of yellow food color
For the Custard Mixture:
- 2 cups milk
- A pinch of salt
- ⅓ cup sugar
- ½ inch cinnamon stick
For the Fruit Mixture:
- 1 cup chopped fruits (grapes, apples, bananas, pomegranate, or any fruit you like)
- ½ cup vanilla cake cubes
For Garnishing:
- Chopped nuts (almonds, cashews, or pistachios)
- Extra pomegranate seeds for decoration
Directions
I hope you’ve gathered all the ingredients on your kitchen countertop. It makes the process easier and faster. Now, let’s get started—
- Take a medium-sized bowl and in it pour ½ cup of milk.
- In the milk now add ⅛ cup or 60 ml of vanilla custard powder.
- Now add a few drops of yellow food color to the mixture. Using the same spoon mix the ingredients well and set it aside.
- Now take a pan and pour 2 cups of milk in it.
- Add a pinch of salt to taste.
- Next, add ⅓ cup of sugar to go into the milk.
- Now I’m adding a ½ inch thin cinnamon stick. Then keep stirring at intervals until the sugar is dissolved completely.
- When the milk is boiling, stir the custard mixture a little before pouring it in. Then, pour the custard mixture into the boiling milk, stirring continuously until it thickens to a smooth, creamy consistency.
- When the mixture is thickened you should be able to see small bubbles forming. Then take the cinnamon stick out of the mixture. Meanwhile, turn the flame off and let the mixture cool down a bit.
- Next, pour the mixture into a bowl let it cool, and set it down in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
- Time to prepare the fruits now. Here into small pieces, I’ve prepared apples, bananas, grapes, some sweet pomegranates, and ½ cup of vanilla cake as well. From the chopped fruits make sure to keep a few grapes and propagates aside for garnishing.
- After 2 hours take the custard mixture out of the freezer, add your chopped fruit, and mix them well using a spoon.
- Next, add the ½ cup of vanilla cake cubes into the mixture and mix again. This time do not stir too much.
- Lastly, pour the mixture into a serving bowl and garnish with the remaining chopped grapes, pomegranate, and some nuts.
All that’s left to do now is to enjoy these creamy delights with your friends and family!
Side Dish Ideas To Go With Your Creamy Fruit Custard
I love butter cookies the most with my fruit custard. The crunch offsets nicely with the creaminess. But hey, waffles or pancakes go great on top, too. On the contrary, my friends love it with vanilla or mango ice cream. You can try it out with jelly or gulab jamun for a very Indian dessert combination too sometimes.
Chef’s Tips
- Make sure to use fresh and ripe fruits. Avoid overly juicy fruits like watermelon, as they’ll make the custard watery.
- Chill the custard properly before adding the fruits. Warm custard can make the fruits release excess moisture.
- Avoid over-stirring after adding fruits to keep them from becoming mushy.
- Adjust the sugar portion to your test and your fruit choice. Make sure to take the cinnamon out before cooling.
