What Are Vanilla Pancakes?
Vanilla pancakes are an international cuisine that is famous for being the perfect breakfast course. The earliest known pancakes were made by the ancient Greeks around 500 B.C.E. They were made with wheat flour, honey, and curdled milk. In medieval Europe, pancakes were often made on Shrove Tuesday, the day before the start of Lent, as a way to use up rich ingredients like eggs, milk, and butter before the fasting period.
Dutch settlers brought their pancake traditions to North America in the 17th century, where they quickly became a popular breakfast food. The addition of vanilla extract to pancake batter is a relatively recent innovation, becoming popular in the 20th century as vanilla became more widely available.
Today, vanilla pancakes are enjoyed around the world as a simple, delicious, and customizable breakfast or brunch option.
How to Make Vanilla Pancakes?
To make your vanilla pancakes first whisk one egg, ⅓ cup of sugar, and a pinch of salt in a big bowl. Add 250 ml of milk, ½ spoon of vanilla essence, and 2 tablespoons of oil, and whisk till smooth.
Now gradually mix in one cup of flour and ½ teaspoon of baking powder. Heat a non-stick pan over a medium flame. Pour an amount of batter onto the pan, and let it cook for a while, then flip it over and cook again.
Continue this same process with the rest of the batter. When done serve these warm and cotton soft delights with your favorite topping and enjoy!
Fluffy Vanilla Pancakes Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 egg
- ⅓ cup sugar
- A pinch of salt
- 250ml milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla essence
- 2 tablespoons oil
- 1 cup flour
- ½ teaspoon baking powder
- Chocolate syrup.
- Fresh fruit such as banana.
Directions
- At first, since you’ll need to do a lot of whisking take an adequately bigger size ball and in it take 1 full egg.

- Add 1/3 cup of sugar to the egg along with a pinch of salt.

- Now using a hand whisker whisk the ingredients all together. Keep on whisking and mixing until the sugar is properly dissolved.

- When your mixture looks similar to mine in the image add 250 ml of milk and whisk again.

- Time to add ½ spoon of vanilla essence.

- Next, you’ll need 2 tablespoons of cooking oil to go into the mixture and beat all the ingredients again.

- After that, add one cup of flour and ½ teaspoon of baking powder, and mix again until no lumps remain.

- Now your pancake batter is ready. Check for the perfect consistency.

- Next, let’s start the cooking session. On a medium flame heat up your pan.

- When the pot is moderately heated, add one medium-sized spoonful of pancake batter.

- Let it cook for one minute on medium-low flame. You should see some small and nice bubbles popping up onto the surface.

- When the bubble forms it indicates that your pancake is cooked well on one side and ready to be flipped. So, use a silicon spatula flip the half-cooked pancake, and let it sit for another 1 minute.

- When on the other side too your pancake gets a brownish hue after a minute, your first pancake is ready.

- Now repeat the same process for your remaining batter.

- When all your pancakes are ready, serve and decorate as you like. I used a banana and some chocolate syrup for garnish, but you can choose your own toppings and enjoy this warm, fluffy delight!

Side Dish Ideas for Vanilla Pancakes
Pancakes are delicious on their own, but pairing them with fresh berries and whipped cream makes them taste even better. It’s a light and refreshing contrast. But if you are a savory lover try it with scrambled eggs and bacon. This pairing balances the sweetness nicely.
For a richer twist, you can pair the pancakes with Nutella or peanut butter. However, pancakes with Greek yogurt and honey are the most classic and healthier protein-packed pairing.
Chef’s Tips
- To get a smoother batter make sure to use ingredients of room-temperature.
- Make sure to keep the heat medium-low to prevent the pancakes from burning.
- Let the batter rest for 5 minutes before you start cooking as it helps create fluffier pancakes.
- Use a hand whisk rather than an electrical one to avoid over-mixing and eventually ending up with not-so-safe pancakes.
