What Is White Sauce Pasta
White sauce pasta is a creamy and comforting Italian-inspired dish made with pasta tossed in a rich, velvety white sauce. The sauce is a simple combination of butter, flour, and milk, cooked until thickened to a smooth consistency. It is flavored with seasonings like salt, pepper, oregano, and sometimes chili flakes for a slight kick.
Vegetables such as capsicum, broccoli, or mushrooms can be added for texture and nutrition. Also, cheese enhances its creaminess and flavor. This dish is versatile, easy to prepare, and popular for its mild yet indulgent taste.
How To Make White Sauce Pasta
To prepare a delightful White Sauce Pasta, start by boiling penne pasta in salted water with a dash of oil for 10 minutes, or as per the packet instructions. Drain and set aside. In a pan, sauté colorful capsicum slices with a touch of oil, seasoning with salt, chili flakes, and oregano for a minute.
For the creamy white sauce, melt butter in a pan and stir in flour, cooking for 2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk to avoid lumps and season with chili flakes, black pepper, salt, oregano, and a hint of sugar. Cook until thickened, then enhance with a slice of cheddar cheese, allowing it to melt into the sauce.
Combine the sautéed vegetables and boiled pasta with the sauce, stirring thoroughly. Cook for two minutes to blend flavors. Serve your rich and creamy White Sauce Pasta warm and enjoy!

Perfect Side Dishes for White Sauce Pasta
White sauce pasta tastes heavenly on its own. However, garlic bread is a classic choice. Its crispy texture and buttery garlic flavor perfectly complement the creamy richness of the pasta.

Didn’t find your favorite yet? How about a bowl of warm tomato soup to enhance the comfort factor of the dish? Or, try a Caprese salad with fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil for a light and zesty touch. Don’t miss out on these combinations!
Chef’s Tips
- Experiment with different cheeses like Parmesan, Gouda, or mozzarella to customize the flavor.
- Use a mix of colorful vegetables like broccoli, carrots, or peas for added nutrition and visual appeal.
- Stop cooking the sauce once it coats the back of a spoon; it will thicken further as it cools.
- Mix the pasta into the sauce immediately after draining to help it absorb flavors.
- White sauce pasta tastes best when served hot, as the sauce can thicken when it cools.
